Together, with the generosity of our Members, SASSAS remains the rare experimental music organization in Los Angeles that guarantees fees to artists for their performances, almost all of which are presented free of charge. We are an artist run organization, so your giving reaches far in Los Angeles’ creative community.

2018 SASSAS Year in Review

Looking back at 2018, SASSAS is proud to have offered three commissions of new work at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook (BHSO) and a premiere at the Kings Road Park Pavilion, as well as encouraged musicians young and old to explore new sounds through soundShoppe and soundSpark.

2019 marks the 20th ANNIVERSARY of the sound. concert series and we are busy planning programming in celebration of its history, along with a new site-specific commission at the Wende Museum of the Cold War on May 4, a sprawling Exquisite Corpse concert at the BHSO on October 13, and an installation of videos from the SASSAS Archives at the Schindler House (MAK Center for Art and Architecture).

December 2, 2018

SASSAS remains firmly committed to supporting local artists and presented two Los Angeles area composer/performers for our final event of 2018. Fahad Siadat premiered new compositions utilizing rich layers of voice that attracted the curiosity of park-goers and passersby. Stephanie Cheng Smith performed on her Bell Controller which, with its combination of light and sound kept, kept us on the edge of our seats

October 21, 2018

SASSAS presented a FREE concert featuring three LA-based artists for whom voice plays a central role. Laura Steenberge opened things up at the amphitheater where she was joined by Erika Bell, Jesse Quebbeman-Turley and Sharon Chohi Kim. Laura was followed by Odeya Nini, who, with Archie Carey, Heather Lockie, Melaena Cadiz, and Daniela Gesundheit, led the crowd in a procession to the top of the hill, where they performed with a 180 degree view of the City as a backdrop. Anna Homler finished the evening with a golden hour performance in the pavilion backed by Jeff Schwartz, Michael Intriere, and Jorge Martin.
