Brendan Carn is a contrabassist, improviser, composer, and educator. Through the study of improvisation, linguistics, and human cognition, he is attempting to understand and manipulate our innate tendency toward order, repetition, and expectation. This study includes solo and ensemble performance and recording, site-specific installation, research, and education. When not making sounds, Brendan also enjoys cledonism, amphilogism, circumlocution, and sesquipedalian excess. Brendan holds a B.F.A. in Contemporary Music from the College of Santa Fe, and an M.F.A. in Jazz Studies from the California Institute of the Arts.
soundSpark is a free, monthly new music series for young children featuring solo and duo performances by emerging artists. soundSpark takes place at 12pm on the first Saturday of every month. August’s concert will feature Brendan Carn.
