SASSAS celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the sound. concert series and the 25th Anniversary of the Culver City Performing Art program by presenting our largest Culver City event to date: a 5-1/2 hour “exquisite corpse” at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook (BHSO) organized by Cindy Bernard, Joe Potts, Jorge Martin and Daniel Corral. 20th Anniversary Corpse takes place on Sunday, October 13 from 1:00 – 6:30pm and is free.

For 20th Anniversary Corpse, more than 25 artists and musicians drawn from the history of sound. are arrayed across five “stations” at the Overlook: the Pavilion (Electronics/LAFMS), the garden amphitheater (Voice / Movement), the circle at the crest of the hill (Winds and Brass), the landing at the top of the stairs (Percussion), and the northeast amphitheater (Strings). Over the course of the afternoon, performances will rotate between these locations with each improvisation overlapping the next, filling the 58 acre park with continuous sound.

The roster of participating artists is selected by SASSAS Founding Director and visual artist Cindy Bernard, and two artists who have been involved in the sound. concert series since 1999: Joe Potts, founding member of the Los Angeles Free Music Society, who is also a past SASSAS board member and runs our ongoing experimental music workshop, soundShoppe; and Jorge Martin, who performed at sound. as Spastic Colon in 1999 and has regularly contributed as a performer and live audio engineer. Daniel Corral, composer, musician and Associate Director of SASSAS (2013-2018) is producing the event. Among the confirmed artists are: Joe Berardi, Bobb Bruno, Corey Fogel, Vinny Golia, Tanya Haden Black, Albert Ortega, Renee Petropoulous, Joe Potts, Rick Potts, Tom Recchion, William Roper, Andy Skyora, Gabie Strong, Rich West, Vetza and Kira Vollman.

20th Anniversary Corpse is made possible in part by the City of Culver City and its Cultural Affairs Commission, in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Performing Arts Grant Program, with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

This project is supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.
