soundSpark is a free, monthly new music series for young children featuring solo and duo performances by emerging artists. soundSpark takes place at 12pm on the first Saturday of every month. The February 2015 concert will feature percussionist and cimbalom player Cory Beers.

Details

Cory Beers is a versatile American drummer and percussionist also specializing in Cimbalom, North Indian Tabla, and Macedonian Davul among many other percussion instruments. Mr. Beers is fluent in a great many traditions and styles of music.

Mr. Beers earned a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in percussion performance from the California Institute of the Arts, where he was a student of contemporary western percussion, traditional musics of North India, Bali, Java and West Africa. He also attended the Conservatory of Music in Chisinau, Moldova where he studied Cimbalom performance.

Mr. Beers frequently performs with such diverse groups as Falsetto Teeth, Taraful Usturoi, the Petrojvic Blasting Company, and Eighteen Squared. He also composes for and performs with his percussion ensemble BoorBaar, a group known for its unusually complex and inventive percussion music.
