SASSAS, in partnership with the City of West Hollywood,  presents an evening of Electro-Acoustic Improvisation: Chicago-based ensemble Coppice, who couple accordions and wind instruments with electronics, will be joined by Mathieu Ruhlmann (Vancouver) & Joda Clément (Toronto), and Casey Anderson (Los Angeles) at the West Hollywood Council Chambers.

Coppice is nexus. Since its foundation in 2009, Coppice has departed from bellows and electronics to create compositions, installations, discography, instruments, arrangements for performance, software, and sculptural objects.

Drawing from its expanding glossary of study, Coppice is currently focused on the development of new technologies, releases of recordings, and objects for installation and live repertoire with custom instruments and electromagnetic and pneumatic processes.

Coppice recordings have been released internationally, recently by Quakebasket (US), Triple Bath (GR), Agxivatein (GR), Pilgrim Talk (US), and Senufo Editions (IT).

Mathieu Ruhlmann is a visual and sound artist. He first began composing soundworks to accompany his visual art based on found material. He has created works for various labels in Europe, Canada and the United States as well as contributed to several compilations. He has also produced sound installations and held performances thorughout North America. He currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Raised in Toronto and based in Vancouver, Joda Clément has been performing and composing experimental music in Canada for over 15 years, developing a unique repertoire of methods for working creatively with sound. His work utilizes analog and acoustic instruments, microphones, found objects and noises recorded from natural and urban environments, investigating hidden properties of sound, space and recording techniques that transcend a distinction between audio and source.

Casey Anderson is an artist working with sound in a number of media, including composition, improvisation, electronic music, saxophone, text, and installations. He has performed with Jason Kahn, Ulrich Krieger, MKM, Fomoudou Don Moye, Michael Pisaro, Ishmael Wadada Leo Smith, Mark Trayle, and the Dog Star Orchestra. Performances, exhibitions, and residencies include MOCA – Los Angeles (CA), ISSUE Project Room (NY), STEIM (NL), Atlantic Center for the Arts (FL), and Mass MOCA (MA). He co-founded, and co-edits (with John P. Hastings and Scott Cazan), the Experimental Music Yearbook, and co-owns khalija records with Wyatt Keusch. He currently lives in Los Angeles, California, teaches in the Media Design Practices department at Art Center College of Design, and works with Machine Project.
