ABOUT THE MUSIC

Pegasus Warning, the alter ego of Guillermo E. Brown, was birthed in a dream and has been described as a supernova of experimental R&B. Raised in New York by an American ethnomusicologist-healer and Panamanian priest-wizard, Brown always opted for the path unknown. The jazz percussionist’s idiosyncratic visions have prompted collaborations with the likes of Twin Shadow, Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear, Saul Williams, Jamie Lidell, Robert Koch, Vijay Iyer, DJ Spooky and others. His latest project, PwEP2, was released in 2016 on his own label Melanin Harmonique Records. It received support from the likes of Afropunk, FADER, Interview Mag, Pigeons & Planes, BBC1xtra, Red Bull Sound Select, Elton John and more. The lead single, “Building a Bridge” co-produced by Itai Shapira, was chosen as KCRW’s Tune of the Day and charted on both the US and Global Spotify charts. Brown is a graduate of Wesleyan University (BA) and Bard College (MFA), he was a adjunct professor at NYU at the Gallatin School for Individualized Study and Clive Davis Institute/Tisch (2006-2008) and Artist-In-Residence at Pacific Northwest College of Art (2010).  He is a recipient of the 2016 Creative Capital Award in Performing Arts for Bee Boy, a recipient of Harvestworks New Works residency (2001), Van Lier Fellowship (2002), MAP Fund (2017) and a residency with director Charlotte Brathwaite and visual artist Abigail Deville at MIT’s Center for Art, Science, and Technology (2016-2017). Most recently he appears as the house drummer for Emmy award winning The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS, with music director Reggie Watts.

SheKhan is the L.A.-based musical duo of Kathleen Kim and Kelly Coats, which draws upon their years of collaborative experimental composition and improvisation to create beat driven interlocking harmonies of flute, violin, vocals, mandocaster, synth, effects and other electronics. Coats and Kim are also members of the avant jazz ensemble LA Fog.  SheKhan performed at the opening of the 2017 Venice Biennalle in Dawn Kasper’s Nomadic Studio.  Coats and Kim previously collaborated in experimental quartet Lady Noise, which performed with Kasper at the opening of the 2012 Whitney Biennial.

Ajay Ravi works at dublab, and on his monthly show Endless Digital Window, he explores new frontiers in disorientation.

Blast! [15] will be hosted by Mary Blodgett and Carlton Calvin at their San Marino home, which was recently featured in Dwell Magazine, who praised it as a “creative revival of a modernist gem.” It features a 1950s house designed by modernist architect Calvin Straub and updated by Fung + Blatt Architects.
